Two women are now safe after they became stuck on a cliff near the Oneonta Trailhead just off the Historic Columbia River Highway while hiking on Saturday afternoon, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) in a press conference Sunday morning.

During MCSO’s press conference Sunday morning, a deputy said the hikers made their way out of the woods a few minutes before 10 a.m. The two women told officials when daylight hit, they decided to try to hike their way out.

Corbett Fire reported the hikers were stuck on a waterfall. The fire department is using their drone to help the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office search and pinpoint an exact location.

"We have some coordinates to work with for their general area and will be using drones with heat signature capabilities to get a more precise location", the sheriff's office told KGW.

Firefighters reported the hikers were not injured but needed assistance at the time.

This is a developing story; check back for updates.
