SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A dog and several cats were saved from a house fire in Syracuse’s Northside late Wednesday night.
At approximately 11:02 p.m., Syracuse Firefighters responded to a one-story two-family home on South Alvord Street with flames coming from the rear of the structure.
Firefighters stretched hoses to the rear apartment while other teams searched for trapped occupants. All searches were negative as all occupants were able to escape before the fire department’s arrival. Firefighters were able to rescue a dog and several cats and reunited them with their owners.
The bulk of the fire was extinguished in approximately 10 minutes, and the fire was declared out after approximately 30 minutes. The fire was contained to the room of origin.
The rear apartment suffered fire, smoke and water damage and the front apartment also suffered smoke and water damage.
Two occupants were displaced, one of whom suffered minor injuries. They were treated at the scene and released.
Syracuse Fire investigators determined the fire began in the kitchen of the rear apartment and was caused by unattended cooking.
There were no injuries reported to firefighters.
