Jamie Oliver’s ‘simple’ technique shows we have all been cooking onions wrong - Express

There is nothing better than a big bowl of your favourite pasta after a long day, but it turns out there is a method to make it even more delicious.

Jamie Oliver has explained he has one easy cooking technique to enhance the flavour of pasta if you are cooking with onions, and that he learned his trick from his gran.

The legendary chef took to Instagram to share his recipe for prawn and tuna linguine, where he explained the trick to making pasta is how you prepare your onions. 

He wrote: “Inspired by my time cooking with Nonna Rosanna, this prawn & tuna linguine is an absolute joy."

Jamie continued:: "I’m using her trick of washing sliced onions to make them milder, and that moisture also helps to add extra sweetness as they cook!"

On Jamie’s website, he also shared some “simple” cooking rules which can help you cook your pasta “Like a pro” while also boosting the flavour.

Jamie wrote: “Always, always salt the pasta water! It will affect the taste of the pasta, and the sauce you serve it with, so never miss out this step.”

He also recommended always using a large pan when cooking pasta to give it more room to cook, but a saucepan’s lid is the key to cooking pasta.

Jamie explained: “Cover your pan with a lid to help bring the water up to the boil more quickly, then remove the lid once the water is boiling or reduce the temperature slightly to stop it bubbling over.

“Add the pasta to the water once it’s boiling, never before, and cook without the lid.”
