Lincoln apartment fire sparked when man fell asleep cooking, LFR says - KLKN

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Crews put out an apartment fire in southeast Lincoln early Saturday morning.

Just after 1 a.m., Lincoln Fire & Rescue was called to the Lodge at Heritage Lakes near 91st Street and Pine Lake Road.

A man was cooking pizza on his stove, something that “should probably be done in the oven,” Battalion Chief Bob Watton said.

The man fell asleep, and the pizza caught fire, according to LFR.

The stovetop, cupboards and countertops were damaged by the flames, Watton said, and there was also smoke damage.

LFR estimated the cost of the damage at $50,000.
