Arizona chef attempts to cook for 7 days straight to break record - 12news.com KPNX

Angel started cooking at 6 p.m. Friday and will need to continue for seven days straight to break the record.

MESA, Ariz. — Most people couldn't imagine doing anything for 168 hours. That's seven days straight. A Mesa chef is attempting to cook for that long to break the Guinness World Record for "Longest Cooking Time."

Sherifat, who goes by Angel, started cooking at 6 p.m. Friday at BLT Kitchen in Mesa and will need to continue for seven days straight to break the record.

Angel will be able to take breaks throughout the challenge to rest a little.

Angel was born in Nigeria and moved to the United States 10 years ago with her three children. She was passionate about bringing Nigerian food to the Valley and eventually opened up her own food truck.

"Last December, when cooking with her kids, her eldest daughter asked her if she would ever consider trying to break the world record for 'Longest Cooking Time'. Angel started researching and realized it was something she wanted to accomplish," a GoFundMe to support Angel said. "Her hope is to show her kids that there is no dream too big to achieve with a good plan. She also wants to broaden access to and familiarity with Nigerian cuisine in the United States."

The meals will be served to those who go cheer her on and will also be given to local charities, organizers said.

Angel is live-streaming the cookathon. You can watch here on YouTube as she attempts to break the record.
