Judge John Hodgman on Cooking With a Dirty Pan - The New York Times

A cut corner leads to contaminated steak skewers. Who’s at fault?

Mike writes: I roasted some steak skewers on a baking pan, which was still dirty from last night’s roasted squash. I deemed it fine to use again. After dinner, my wife said, “I hope you washed that pan.” She had sprayed chemical degreaser on it to soak overnight. Who’s at fault here?

Per our further correspondence, I know a) that you’re still alive and b) the brand of degreaser in question. While the bottle does say “Eye Irritant,” it doesn’t specifically say you can’t drink it. I’m sure you’re happy: You seem like someone who appreciates skating on a technicality. But while I refrain from identifying the product here, I still name you: Mr. Dirty. Squash or degreaser, you were lazy. You knew that pan was unclean, used it anyway and are now lucky to not be vomiting. Thanks for sending pictures of the skewers, though. They look delicious! And very well degreased.
