What Pokémon Actually Eat | Screen Rant - Screen Rant

The Pokémon series has shown Pokémon snacking on all sorts of munchies both in the animated series and during each of the different games. From raw berries to kibble, it appears that Pokémon food can come in many types and flavors. However, fans may be wondering just how many different types of food Pokémon have been seen eating throughout the decades, and what some of that food is actually made of.

The first and primary food which seems to be available to Pokémon both in the games and the animates series are berries. While berries weren't introduced as players currently know them until Gen 3, with a proto-type berry system in Gen 2, berries have become and important grocery staple in the Pokémon series. Players can feed raw berries to their Pokémon to regain health and heal status issues, as well as use them in different mini-game cooking features seen in each generation. Pokémon also regularly chow down on berries in many episodes of the Pokémon anime.

Pokémon also appear to eat human food. From Pikachu and its ketchup in Pokémon: Indigo League, to Ice Cream, Pop and Lava Cookies in different Pokémon games, they don't seem to have any issues eating certain foods that their human partners pack around. However, the animated series has leaned into the concept of "Pokémon Food" in more recent seasons. This special food looks a lot like the kibble people would feed their pets in real life, and is often given to Pokémon in pet-food style dishes. Currently it isn't known what this food is made from, but it might be different berries ground and dried into pellets.

Pokémon Can Eat Many Different Types Of Food Through The Series

The Pokémon games have also used different types of food that players can prepare while they travel with their friends. Pokémon: Ruby and Sapphire used Pokéblocks to improve a Pokémon's different traits. Poffins were used in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl to take the place of Pokéblocks, but had roughly the same effects. The Poképuff was introduced in Pokémon X and Y, and was a sort of cupcake that players could get playing mini-games in the Poké Aime. Pokébeans were a treat used in Pokémon Sun and Moon that players got while using the Poké Pelago. Finally cooking curry was added in Sword and Shield. Each of these different treats have made minor appearances in the anime, and appear to be fun way of showing each region's different style of Pokémon cooking.

While there are many different treats in the Pokémon games, there are also medicines that players can buy or find as well, and are used from time to time in the anime. These medicines are made of ground herbs and berries, and are often portrayed as being unpleasant to take but more beneficial than potions and status healers found in Pokémarts. When it comes to food in the Pokémon series, it seems there is no shortage of variety for trainers and their partners to pick from, and new types may be added in generations to come.
