3 N.J. restaurants named among Top 100 U.S. places to eat in 2021 - NJ.com

Dining may be much different in 2021 as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, but one thing has stayed the same — New Jersey’s restaurants are still getting national recognition.

Yelp recently released its Top 100 Places to Eat in 2021, and three of the restaurants are in the Garden State. The Pasta Shop in Denville, Kim’s Sushi in West Orange and Fresh Tiki Bar in Somerville all made the cut.

The Pasta Shop, which came in at No. 19, has been open for just a few years but has already become one of the most popular contemporary Italian restaurants in the state. Its modern minimalist yet rustic dining room featuring unstained wood tables, a stainless steel open kitchen and subway tile walls was routinely packed prior to the pandemic. Long waits are normal as people line up to eat their pasta dishes like rigatoni alla vodka and pappardelle bolognese and classics like chicken parm.

Kim’s Sushi is far from the fanciest sushi restaurant you’ll find in New Jersey, but don’t let the unassuming interior fool you — you won’t find many sushi spots better than this one, especially for their prices. Basic rolls? They got ‘em. Fancy, over the top pieces of sushi? Got those too. You won’t break the bank for either, and chances are you’ll get a free roll sent your way by the kitchen. They came in at No. 45 on the list for good reason.

Fresh Tiki Bar in Somerville rounded out New Jersey’s representation at No. 63. While it may sound like a bar, it’s actually an ice cream shop with other healthier desserts as well. With smoothies, açai bowls, candies, chocolate, hot cocoa bombs and ice cream among other desserts and treats, Fresh Tiki Bar is as Instagram-worthy as it is delicious.

“Last December, we asked Yelpers to tell us about their favorite restaurants, the lunchtime go-tos and special occasion spots that they can’t wait to return to,” Yelp wrote in the announcement. “This year’s list is the culmination of thousands of suggestions we received from the Yelp community, a list of favorite restaurants where we can’t wait to enjoy a meal with loved ones again.”
