COOKING WITH THE SNAP - Trail Mix - The Stanly News & Press - Stanly News & Press

Editor’s Note: Let’s celebrate the past with some of our favorite recipes of our grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles. Email bj.drye@stanlynewspress.com with recipes and a small story about the famous cooks that go with the recipe. Pictures can be included of the cook.

Trail Mix

1/8 Cup Almonds (I use toasted almonds with sea salt)
Dried mango – 1 piece
Dried apricots – 3
Dried prunes – 3

Combine ingredients in snack-size zipper bag. I prepare 5 or 6 bags at a time so it’s easy to grab and go. There are lots of dried fruits on the market, but many contain a lot of added sugar. Look at the label before you decide what you’ll add to your trail mix.

Dried apricots provide fiber, Vitamin A, iron, potassium and antioxidants. Prunes are a good source for fiber, potassium, several vitamins, and iron. I added mango because I love the flavor, although it does have added sugar.
