On the long, long list of weird spring training injuries and maladies over the years, Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly recent cooking injury ranks near the top.

Kelly, who joined the Dodgers in December on a three-year, $25 million deal, missed a few days of work this week after he hurt his back during a marathon five-hour crawfish boil.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts joked that he needs to keep Kelly away from his jambalaya. Kelly threw pitches on Friday, and is expected to return soon.

“Standing a little too long. That’s one of the more unique ones,” Roberts said. “The message is, I have to keep him away from the stove. We’ll keep him away from the jambalaya.”

It has been a relatively quiet year for weird spring training injuries. Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo was believed to have made himself ill from eating undercooked chicken during spring training last month, but it was later revealed that Nimmo was suffering from a virus at the time.
