Four plead guilty to cooking at Genting petrol station, fined RM500 each - The Star Online

KUANTAN: Four individuals, including three women, were each fined RM500 after pleading guilty to endangering others by cooking using a gas stove at a petrol station in Genting Highlands on May 12.

Fadhli Zil Ikram, 24; Nurfatin Irdina Shahrulnizam,24; Nur Anis Salleh, 24; and Nur Azira Azman, 23; pleaded guilty to the charge, which was read to them before Magistrate Nadratun Naiem Zainan on Tuesday (May 21).

The four of them were charged with cooking instant noodles using a gas stove in a petrol station areas at Genting Highlands.

They were accused of committing the offences at about 1.30am at a petrol station in Taman Cendawan near Genting Highlands on May 12.

Magistrate Nadratun, in her judgement, questioned all of the accused on how they got the idea to cook the instant noodles at the petrol station.

"Don't you know it's dangerous to cook at a petrol station? And then you uploaded it on social media," she said.

All the accused were convicted under Section 336 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Act, which carries a maximum prison sentence of three months, a fine of up to RM500, or both.

During the mitigation process, all the accused requested a lower fine, each stating that they are supporting their parents and siblings, and acknowledging that this was their first offence.

The prosecution, led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Zamharir Muhammad Zuhid, however requested an appropriate punishment for all the accused to serve as a lesson to them and the public.

Nadratun then imposed a RM500 fine for each of them or three days imprisonment if the accused cannot pay the fine.

All of the accused paid the fine.

It was reported that a group of youths had provoked anger online by uploading a video of themselves cooking at a petrol station in Genting Highlands.

The video has since gone viral on TikTok and other social media platforms.

The youths were seen in the video using two portable stoves to cook instant noodles and other food while parked at the gas station.
