Possible freezing rain could disrupt holiday travel in Columbia River Gorge, Hood River Valley - KATU

If you are traveling later on Christmas Eve or Christmas, travel impacts should be minimal except in parts of the Columbia River Gorge and Hood River Valley.

WEATHER | LATEST KATU FORECAST

“Christmas travel shouldn’t be much of a problem for most of the Northwest. You do need to watch out for potential freezing rain for the Columbia River Gorge, mainly the east end and into the Hood River Valley, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day,” says KATU’s Joe English.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Central Columbia River Gorge, including the cities of Hood River, Carson, and Underwood.

They say light snow or freezing rain will start Sunday night and then change to freezing rain on Christmas Day.

If you are traveling over the Oregon or Southwest Washington Cascades, snow is expected and elevations above 4500 feet could see 2-6 inches before changing over to rain on Christmas Day.

Speaking of the Cascades, NWS Portland says they have the best chance of seeing a “White Christmas.”
