GLEN JEAN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Preliminary data released by the National Park Service shows that during the month of November, the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve saw a 28.3% decrease in visitation compared to November 2021.

In November of 2021, the Park had a total of 110,368 recreational visitors come through, while last month only saw 79,143 visitors.

It is important to note that fall foliage in the New River Gorge area lasted into November last year, which always attracts many people to the area. Fall foliage this year peaked in October which could be a reason for the lower visitation numbers.

The only area within the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve that saw an increase during November was the Grandview Visitor’s Center which saw a 16% increase in visitors.

In November of 2021, the Grandview VC recorded 12,905 visitors while 14,975 people visited in November of this year.

Overnight tent stays at NPS campgrounds remained the same as last November.

Visitation for this year to date sits at 1,586,148 compared to 1,636,127 last year at this time.
