Dentist says ‘eat all your Halloween candy at once, for your teeth’ - OregonLive

So, your parents have finally agreed to let you go trick-or-treating this year, and here you are, looking at mom’s phone for some facts to back up the argument you’ve just made that you should definitely be allowed to eat all your Halloween candy at once.

Great news, industrious child! At least one dentist agrees with you!

According to a press release sent out Thursday, Dr. Joel Berg, the former president of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (who is also the chief dental officer for this self-brushing mouth machine called Willo), a real dentist for sure, says that “Eating candy all at once is better for your teeth.”

Hand the phone back to your mom! She’s got to see this!

This dentist, Berg, wants you to know that “If you are going to eat candy, it’s better for your teeth if you eat all the candy in one sitting, rather than snacking throughout the day.”

Does he know how much candy you have? No. Is he interested in any other part of your body beyond your teeth, say your brain or your stomach? Not mentioned here.

But he does say that eating all your candy at once is better for your teeth than eating it slowly, throughout the days and months to come.

Berg doesn’t stop there with this candy advice. He suggests, when picking a candy to gorge yourself on, you go with chocolate candy over gummies.

“If you want to eat the candy that’s the least damaging to your teeth, choose chocolate and skip the gummies,” he said in the release. “Chocolate can melt and won’t stick into the surfaces and grooves of teeth.”

So, there you have it, parent who made the wrong call when you told your child, “If you can find me a doctor who says it’s better to eat your Halloween candy all at once then you can eat your Halloween candy all at once.”

Looks like you lost this round. But don’t worry! Next year, your little angel will be so deeply scarred from eating 10,000 calories of mini Snickers in one sitting that you might get to skip trick-or-treating altogether!
