MANALI: Three tourists from Delhi, including a man and his son, were killed after the car they were travelling in fell into an 800m deep gorge near Marogi on Kandi-Kataula road in Himachal's Mandi district on Sunday.
The tourists were returning to Delhi from Manali and were using Bajaura-Kataula-Mandi bypass road at 6.30am when the accident took place. The car (DL10CL0878) fell into a deep gorge and was destroyed completely. The villagers ran to help the occupants of the vehicle but all three were found dead on spot.
Mandi superintendent of police Shalini Agnihotri said the deceased were identified as Harveen Sandhu (driver), 34, Ramesh Chander, 49, and his son Yogesh, all residents of Delhi. "The whole area was combed to ensure that only three persons were inside the car. Relatives of the deceased have been informed. Bodies have been shifted to the zonal hospital, Mandi, to carry out a post-mortem," she said.
As the Kullu-Mandi section of the Chandigarh-Manali national highway causes frequent jams, many people prefer using the Kandi-Kataula bypass road between Kullu and Mandi. This road is very steep, narrow with deep gorges and many hairpin bends.
