New Hope firefighter Pat Merical, right, and Sempronius firefighter Tyler Bloodgood help a young child up a steep slope as rescue personnel from multiple agencies helped rescue a woman, 27, and the child, 5, who had gotten lost at the bottom of a gorge in the area of Fire Lane 16 in the town of Niles on Tuesday. Both are members of the Cayuga County High Angle Rescue team. The woman called 911 asking for help. Responding were fire departments from New Hope, Sempronius, Moravia, Cayuga High Angle Rescue, State Fire High Rescue and Four Town Ambulance. The woman and child were brought up safely and taken to a hospital for observation.
