New Hope firefighter Pat Merical, right, and Sempronius firefighter Tyler Bloodgood help a young child up a steep slope as rescue personnel from multiple agencies helped rescue a mother and her 5-year-old daughter who had gotten lost in the woods and stranded at the bottom of a gorge in the area of Fire Lane 16 in the town of Niles on Tuesday. The woman called 911 asking for help. The two, from Liverpool, were brought up safely, checked out by paramedics, and given a lift to their vehicle. Responding were fire departments from New Hope, Sempronius and Moravia, as well as the Cayuga County High Angle Rescue Team, state fire high rescue crews, and Four Town Ambulance.
