Cook with spirit - Atlanta Journal Constitution

As the star of Bravo’s “Married to Medicine” and co-host of the talk show “Sister Circle,” Quad Webb is not one to hold back on the details of her private life. That includes what she likes to cook for quick, healthy meals and cozy gatherings of friends at her home in Atlanta.

In her first cookbook, the Memphis native fondly recalls the “special bonding time” shared with her mom in the kitchen. Webb still finds comfort and joy behind the stove, and assumed others did as well, “until I saw the panic that possessed my friends when confronted with the thought of being in the kitchen.”

“Cooking with Miss Quad” is designed to help readers overcome those fears — with gentle encouragement, mood-setting tips, and approachable recipes heavily infused with the vivacious personality that made the former medical sales rep a celebrity.

Producing great meals requires more than cooking skill. Ambience, Webb emphasizes, is just as important. Before taking us into her kitchen, she schools us on creating a peaceful, stress-free environment with warm lighting, intoxicating aromas and a soundtrack of soft, smooth tunes.

Webb’s recipes reflect her taste for fresh produce (Peach, Fig, and Arugula Salad with Spicy Lemon Honey Vinaigrette) and bold Southern flavors (Memphis BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders), with occasional side trips to the Caribbean (Coconut Shrimp with Spicy Orange Sauce) and a cocktail for every occasion (Cabernet Sangria, Blueberry Bourbon Lemonade).

At her table, the humblest of comfort foods get elevated to white-tablecloth status. She pairs Lemon Pepper Hot Wings — twice-baked for crunch, rather than deep-fried — with good Champagne. And her luxurious Lobster Mac & Cheese, she claims, “will have everyone singing your name like Beyonce!”

With clear instructions, seductive photography and ingredient lists that lean heavily on pantry staples, novice cooks should find plenty in these pages they could confidently execute with little hassle, and a whole lot of style.
