If ordinary summer camp has your kid pleading to stay home, spending the hot months at The Kitchen at Bed Bath & Beyond in East Hanover might just be the perfect substitution to a summer of canoeing and knot-tying.
The Kitchen is an interactive cooking space stocked with new appliances. It will offer cooking camps for children and teenagers all summer. These hands-on courses will be five-days long and feature topics such as baking, Italian food, gift wrapping, floral arranging and calligraphy.
Classes will be offered in two different sessions: one for children ages 7 to 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and one for teens from 2 to 5 p.m. The 2019 summer classes include:
- Baking, Baking & More Baking: Beginning July 8, Monday to Friday; Bake delicious desserts, breads and muffins.
- Cookies, Cookies & More Cookies: Beginning July 15, Monday to Friday; Learn how to make different cookies using various techniques.
- ABC’s of Cooking: Beginning July 22, Monday to Friday; Learn the basics (techniques, equipment and ingredients) of cooking.
- Cooking Around the World: Beginning July 29, Monday to Friday; Cook dishes from around the world, such as Italy, Asia, France, North and South America.
- My Travels Thru Italy: Beginning Aug. 5, Monday to Friday; Learn the ins and outs of Italian cooking.
- Play with Ingredients: Beginning Aug. 12, Monday to Friday; Use classic ingredients to cook in new ways.
- Principles of Cooking: Beginning Aug. 19, Monday to Friday; Learn the best way to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner.
- Design-Your-Own: Beginning Aug. 26, Monday to Friday; Bring a group of friends and cook whatever you want.
