LANSING, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Officials with the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve are urging visitors to be cautious within the park after heavy winds have downed trees and caused damage to a portion of the Canyon Rim Boardwalk.
Officials say that windy weather that occurred on Friday has resulted in a temporary closure of part of the lower boardwalk at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center.
The Canyon Rim Boardwalk is temporarily closed from the stairs from the upper observation deck to the lower observation point due to damage from a fallen tree.
Currently, the upper observation deck remains open.
Due to recent heavy rainfall and high winds, there have also been reports of several trails having trees fallen across impeding access. Park officials advise all visitors to be cautious of downed trees and trees at risk of falling on roads and trails.
