ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester police say a man is dead after falling into the Genesee River Gorge early Thursday morning.
According to the RPD, a 911 call came in around 2 a.m. for a report of a man who fell into the gorge near High Falls and was unresponsive.
Police say the 19-year-old was able to slip through a gap in a fence that was north of the Inner Loop. They say there is a considerable drop into the gorge on the other side of the fence.
When first responders arrived, they say they could see the man at the bottom and noted he had obvious injuries. When members of the fire department reached the man he was determined to be deceased.
According to police, there does not appear to be any foul play and they believe this incident is a tragic accident.
The victim's name has not yet been released.
