Letter: Congress must allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices - Times Union

susahmadang.blogspot.com

My health insurance carrier, and my husband, are charged thousands of dollars, every month, for his prescriptions, the highest costs for his diabetes medications. We have had to decline prescription recommendations from our doctors for the newest, most effective medications because the costs are exorbitant. We simply cannot afford these charges on our retirement income, and month after month it is getting worse.

I know we are not the only family facing this gorging (gouging) behavior; drug companies are getting rich and consumers are getting ripped off. It doesn't have to be this way.

Medicare spends billions on prescription drugs; it is prohibited from negotiating with the drug companies for lower prices.

Congress is considering giving Medicare the power to negotiate for lower, more moderate drug prices for consumers. Congress must follow through and make this a reality.

This would lower costs for us and for other seniors. But, instead, drug companies are spending millions to stop this plan so they can continue charging us the highest prices in the world. This is unconscionable.

Everyone being victimized this way needs to contact members of Congress and urge them to stop the Big Pharma scam and allow Medicare to negotiate for reasonable drug prices.
