The Royal Gorge Philharmonic will present a free concert of classial composers titled “Music by the Masters” on March 26 at the Steeple Events Center, located 701 Macon Ave. The concert will start at 4 p.m. and will run for 1 hour and 45 minutes and will have an intermission. The concert is free to the public but donations will go towards the Mount Moriah Masonic Lodge Scholarship Fund for Fremont County students.
Music by world-renowned classical composers that were Masons will be the theme of the upcoming performance by the Royal Gorge Philharmonic, the second concert of the orchestra’s inaugural season.
Featuring San Franciso’s cello soloist Mathew Linaman, the orchestra will be playing works of Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, and Sousa. Each of these composers were members of Masonic Lodges in Europe and the United States. Mount Moriah Masonic Lodge of Canon City is presenting the concert to raise donated funds for their annual scholarship awards given to college-bound students in Fremont County.
The earlier concert of the Royal Gorge Philharmonic filled the Event Center; to maintain the seating and safety requirements this performance will require a ticket available for free from the orchestra’s website, https://ift.tt/5CYDg4p.
A special portion of the concert includes a drawing for the opportunity to conduct the orchestra in Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.” Tickets can be purchased during the concert; the lucky audience member will come up and lead the Philharmonic to close the concert.
Conductor Gerald Willis has enslited the talents of professional musicians from the Pike’s Peak Musicians Union, the Pueblo Symphony and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. The professional musicians will be performing this free event with a partial grant from the Music Performance Trust Fund in New York. The orchestra is currently scheduling a series of concerts that will continue through Winter and Spring of 2022.
