Property Watch: An Entertainer's Dream Home near the Gorge - Portland Monthly

susahmadang.blogspot.com

Editor’s Note: Portland Monthly’s “Property Watch” column takes a weekly look at an interesting home in Portland’s super-competitive real estate market (with periodic ventures to the burbs and points beyond, for good measure). This week: a dream ski chalet/windsurf crash pad in Parkdale. Got a home you think would work for this column? Get in touch at [email protected].

If you’re looking for some seclusion in the mountains with a few of your closest friends and family, then this is the property for you: a custom home on 20 acres of forest land in the Mount Hood-Parkdale area, south of Hood River. Bought partially built in 2018, the home was finished into an entertainer’s dream, complete with four en-suite bedrooms so guests are comfortable, generous living areas with vaulted ceilings and two fireplaces, and not one but two covered outdoor areas for multiseason delight.

The overall look is rustic meets modern, starting at the exterior, where Montana timber siding joins a metal roof and stone accents. The timber and stone repeats inside for continuity, with the wood cladding the high ceilings and wrapping the entry, and the stone defining the fireplace in the main living room.

The rest of the details are contemporary, providing a nice contrast with the rustic. These include crisp white walls, black-framed windows and doors, a luxe kitchen with a large island and waterfall counter, and pops of patterned tile from Pratt & Larson and Artistic Tile in the bathrooms. Thoughtful touches throughout make accommodating more people easy, including a wet bar that serves the family room and downstairs bedrooms, laundry rooms on both levels, a generous covered parking pad so you’re not unloading the car in the rain and snow, and a natural stone window seat that doubles as firewood storage in the living room.

Then there are the spectacular views, which include Mount Hood, Mount Adams, and even Mount Rainier on a clear day. Each of the protected outdoor rooms takes full advantage. In the kitchen, a sliding glass door leads to an outdoor kitchen and lounge, and sight lines to Hood. In the dining room, ten-foot-tall La Cantina doors push open to an outdoor dining room set up to appreciate Mount Adams. But really, the way the house is positioned and with the window placement as it is, there are many spots to get your mountain fix, from the living room window seat, to the main bedroom.

And should you need a break from the gathering, hit the slopes at Mt Hood Meadows 25 minutes away, or take a stroll through Hood River, which is an even closer 15-minute drive.
