Unattended cooking leads to fire in Highland home - Shreveport Times

The Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched Friday at 9:03 p.m. to the 100 block of E. Egan Street for a reported house fire. The first unit arrived on scene at 9:04 p.m. reporting smoke visible from the roof of a one-story, wood framed home.

Firefighters learned upon arrival that all five occupants were able to escape the residence.

It took six minutes for approximately 25 firefighters to bring the fire under control. The home sustained heavy fire damage in the area of the kitchen. Fire officials were told that one of the five occupants had been cooking and left food unattended on the stovetop.

Fire investigators have confirmed the fire originated in the kitchen at the stove and the fire has been classified as accidental cooking. There were no reported injuries.

There was no working smoke alarm in the house.
